I had a meeting with the organising committee for the forthcoming basic Surgical and laparoscopic course. Moreover, a meeting with an energy company AFLUX specialising in solar energy harnessing was planned and executed as well. Shoaib and I were very impressed with the quality of lights on offer but exorbitant pricing dissuaded us to sign a contract with the company.
Next morning PIA flight at 7 am took me with hundred others to Islamabad. We travelled with our driver Waheed (Driver on MDAUK hospital site) and project engineer Rizwan’s car. Various meeting were held in site office with Master Sealers (Roof tiler), Prime aluminium (Double glaze windows), Plumber and work force contractor. Terms and condition for roof tiling and windows were agreed and signed for in total of Rs 14 million.
I stayed on at hospital site to plan further schedule for work to be undertaken in next three months. Few strong words were used with the team and work force as pace of work was not as expected. Mr Fazal General Manager Bank Azad Jammu Kashmir visited the site were we had a very good meeting. He promised every possible help with any difficulty if it may arise.
After certificate distribution lunch was served and course was closed. An unsavoury incident had taken place on the last day that a participant had stolen another’s bag. We manage to retrieve it with the help of CCTV records. Interestingly this course was live on the internet through out all three days. The credit for this achievement goes to Junaid Qadri who is a brilliant IT consultant.
Final day was spent at the dry lab of civil hospital Karachi teaching Asst Professors and senior registrars, intra and extracorporeal suturing on goats gut. It is always a pleasure to interact and teach these very skilful and bright young men and women.
